About Session

Session Description:

This interactive session introduces the HOPE framework (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) as a transformative approach to supporting perinatal mental health through a relational, strengths-based lens. Rather than focusing solely on risk or trauma, HOPE centers on the protective power of safe, stable, and nurturing relationships—especially during the vulnerable perinatal period.

Participants will explore the four HOPE building blocks—relationships, safe environments, engagement, and emotional growth—and examine how these can be intentionally fostered within clinical, home, and community settings. Through case scenarios and reflective dialogue, we’ll consider how providers can co-create moments of connection that reduce stress, support healing, and build long-term resilience for birthing people, infants, and families.

The session emphasizes trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and partnership with caregivers—especially those facing systemic barriers or parenting amid adversity. Attendees will leave with tangible tools to integrate HOPE into their own practice, including strengths-based communication strategies, co-regulation techniques, and approaches that affirm caregiver capacity and dignity.

Ideal for professionals supporting families in the perinatal window, this session offers a hopeful, practical path forward in the collective work of healing.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the HOPE framework and its relevance to perinatal mental health.

  5. Explore practical tools to co-create positive experiences in clinical, home-visiting, and community-based settings.
