About Chelsea Bellon
Chelsea Bellon is an enrolled member of the Ihanktonwan Dakota Oyate (Yankton Sioux Tribe), raised in the San Poil Valley on the Colville Reservation in Washington. Grounded in the teachings of her ancestral and home communities, her work in maternal and child health is rooted in identity, reciprocity, and deep accountability to Native families and future generations.
Her path is shaped by lived experience. As a mother, she experienced postpartum depression following each of her three pregnancies and was later diagnosed with bipolar II disorder. These experiences led her to Indigenous postpartum care and continue to inform her commitment to culturally grounded, community-based approaches that honor the full realities of perinatal mental health.
Chelsea currently serves as a Program Manager at the National Indian Health Board, where she develops culturally responsive programs, trainings, and workforce pathways to support Tribal maternal and behavioral health, birthworkers, and families. She also serves as a Patient Family Partner with the Montana Perinatal Quality Collaborative, bringing her lived experience and community perspective to help improve systems of care for families across Montana.
She is a certified Indigenous Postpartum Birthworker, with a focus on peer support, perinatal mood disorders, and integrating Indigenous knowledge into health systems. Chelsea holds a Master of Public Health in Indigenous Health and remains grounded in community, committed to Indigenous birthing sovereignty, and guided by a vision of collective healing and thriving for generations to come.
